Dramatic Boat Fire Off Key Biscayne

Dramatic Boat Fire in Florida - Video - FoxNews.com

Dont play with matches kiddies!

Apparently all aboard were rescued. I wonder if gas or battery fumes had anything to do with it?

That reminds me; I've got a bad propane sensor I need to replace. Think I'll get to that, this weekend.

Yikes, fiberglass sure burns like heck, doesn't it.

I found it interesting that a lot of the water from the fireboat was going over the burning boat.Seems like they needed the nozzle higher up to get the water in where the fire was.Fiberglass boats really burn hot and for a long time!

should the fire-boat have been aligned with the carver and off it's transom? they could surely get more water in it and the waves would not have been playing games with aiming the water.

It was hopeless by the time they got there -- a total write off in any case. I suppose they were fighting the fire only to try to prevent the boat from sinking, creating an environmental problem. Or maybe to keep down the air pollution.

I think that's also why a lot of the fire hose water was going over the boat -- if they had trained the hoses right on the fire, that water would have sunk the boat.

Anyway, it was hopeless from the beginning. The hull was already breached, before the fire boat got there.

As I heard it, there was a filming of a reality show there with Maimi Dade fire rescue in the area They saw the black smoke and arrived at the scene The fire had no connection with that show The boat was fairly late model and in very nice shape.....before the fire

In a marina the very first thing they do is cut the dock lines get the boat out of the marina any way they can! As you see the fire boat is really not over matched. Imagine using water hoses that you find at a marina dock. It would be a joke. Had they poured the water directly into the boat they would have sunk the boat. That would be worse.

Well before the video was started this boat was gone. I'm sure it still took quite a while to get the fire out.

Am I the only sailor here thinking this could be karma for the giant wake throwing machine?
