Ohhhh, that's disgusting. But I have to smile thinking that the Whale got the last laugh.

But I do have to wonder why on earth an entire whale is on the back of a truck. I thought they processed the thing at sea.

Alan,
They don't necessarily do these things at sea.

We had a necropsy done of a whale on our boat ramp at work a few years ago. After they got done cutting it all to pieces, they loaded the whale on a truck into those waterproof fiberglass bins you see on the back of trucks used for carrying tomatoes..and it was hauled off to an undisclosed location for burial. In 10 years or so, they will unbury it and put the whale bones on display.

The dead whale had swam into the SF Bay and died. I never found out the results of the necropsy.

Send a message via AIM to sluissa
If you had read the part at the top, the whale beached itself and died. Researchers wanted to autopsy it so they loaded it up on the truck to take it to the lab.

We had a Grey Whale wash up on our community's beach about ten years ago.

After the local authorities did their thing, they put the remains underwater in Oak Harbor.

It was only about 3 months later when they pulled it out because the crabs and other critters had stripped it clean.

It's now on display in Coupeville.

Who was Rosie the Whale?

I have a wonderful old .mpg on my PC at home describing how some intrepid "good ole boys" used TNT to blow up a beached whale. After the explosion it shows the reporter getting whacked by flying debris.

Here is the video of the exploding whale.

They take a half ton of dynamite and just blow the hell out of it. Chunks of it land as far as a quarter mile way. People run for cover as chunks land on them. One guys car has its roof caved in. Its really something to watch this video in case you have never seen it before.

It was the Sherrifs car if I remember rightly and it was caved in by a 1/4ton jaw bone or something. The funniest thing I have ever seen. They thought the birds would come and eat the pieces, but the explosion scared the birds away and there was too much "stuff" scattered every where and the result was a real stink.
