What? How? I think I've seen that at a peep show in New Bedford.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

Of adult drownings, natural water and boating, 88% victims are male. Y'all need to take a seat, pee into a PVC pipe to a scupper, or pee in cup then over side, so many options . If you gotta pee directly over the side, clip into harness.

But if it is that important to ya, to feel the wind in your nether regions, be a rebel and takes your chances

I have a feeling that 88% of the people on the water are men as well, or close enough.

The origin of the name is rather obvious.
sailing schools and marine authorities all over the globe teach that. While there is certainly a danger that should be recognized, after some discussion in this forum some time ago, no one could actually find any evidence of a regular loss of life from this. It certainly has occured, as I used to teach the same rule too. But once again, to the best of my knowledge actual data on this is negligible to say the least compared with the plethora of other dangers we face on the water.

And the point is?
You want to pee over the side, fine. But it is healthy and prudent to at least acknowledge the increased risk of finding yourself on the wrong side of the life lines. It is not about agility, or experience, or technique. It about your odds.
Hope you learn that, it applies to more than just peeing over the side.

A simple google search will pull up pages of drowning from urinating off boat or marina pier. Heck, a famous French woman sailor fell overboard while getting ready to pee off the boat. It is not a folk lore, it's just plain common sense, get near the side of a boat, take a moment to unzip ( requires two hands), loose balance, plop in water.

I'm harping because I pulled two guys out of the water in a months time, this hits close to home. I'm not saying you cannot do it, you are big boys, I'm just saying you need to at least recognize that it is risky behavior, and hopefully, take precautions.

We like you sailor men onboard.

If you are implying that I'm jealous, you are correct but being a girl has its perk too.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

I gave in years ago and started sitting down. Not just for the mess, but it's just a lot easier when you're sailing.
I occasionally pee over the side, but it really is a ticking time bomb....

pirate Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

Peeing over the side instructions...
Wander up the leeward side deck to the shrouds..
put one arm round a lower and the other round the masthead shroud..
lean crotch forward and unzip...
Extract and shake a bit to ensure clearance from the zip and..
SIGH....
Shake well and return to shelter/repose position ensuring clearance of the zip.. again...
Zip up... check the lines at the mast and the fore sheet.. tidy if needed...
Wander back..
Put kettle on and refill...

Rebel Heart,
You are now attempting to insert facts into the statistical arena, this is unacceptable in populist academia and pseudo-science.
Please refrain from this as you may be encouraging a dangerous precedent.
Your voluntary co-operation is required in the current era of controlled freedom of speech and tailored statistics.
You may or may not have been warned, depends on what the masses, in his office, feel is warranted due to this heretical behavior.
Just saying,
Mac
