There, fixed it for you. I mean, unless you all are incontinent; in that case, never mind.

That comment really sucks!

That is dangerous! Couple of years ago a guy went missing on his way to Nantucket. His wife and small child were sleeping and did not wake until the boat was bouncing on the beach.

I have to pee over the side because it freaks me out when my pee seems to make the toilet water glow.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

On all of my deliveries, I stated the rules. No smoking on board, no drinking underway and you squat to pee. Ill be damned if I am going to clean all of the walls in the head because someone things it is beneath their masculinity to sit while peeing. How fragile are our egos?????". _____Grant.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

This subject really pisses me off after several trips with guy pigs( standers )and me being the one that has to clean the yellow head area I explain that there wives must be the ones that clean up after them but is NOT MY D JOB!and if they every want to go again then SIT DOWN!!
Once after coming on watch I asked what the H was that smell? the crew going off watch explained the he had been peeing in the cockpit drain because he could not leave the helm due to the autopilot not being able to handle the weather GOOD ANSWER our solution was to zip tie a long funnel to the lower lee rail, worked like a champ and was safe because you were standing on the cockpit sole with upper rail at chest height so you could use both hands and no chance of falling over it also had that challenge of keeping it in the center one of the crew requested a cigarette butt in it to practice aiming you know

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

Me thinks that anyone who would ask this question is not likely the person who has to clean the head.

I am very much enjoying a stress free marriage and tranquil domestic life. I sit down to pee at home.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

On a catamaran, there's no need to squat although on the RHIB a different technique must be used, especially if a large sharp point is at the end of it.
I do feel reassured, I'll admit, using a harness when on the steps as although less cleaning is required afterwards using both hands during the business is necessary.
The leeward steps should be used to avoid any 'in your face' type moments in case unexpected excitement eventuates, though a firm but not too firm two handed grip is usually sufficient.
Possibly inexperienced female crew/passengers, should stick to shorter stouter models and be securely strapped in as physical strength at the critical time does count.
Remember, KISS, drop it in, exhale slowly, wait for two tugs to confirm and then pull it back in firmly and steadily using hands.
Be ready to gaff, a few whacks now may be fun for some but that's not where I would want the head to be, I'd want it safely aboard first.
If an inexperienced crew member [male or female] has the gaff be ready to use liberal amounts of alcohol according to your preference.
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers,
Mac

I think it is a US thing - in the US folks need Govt instructions on how to poop.....so how to pee is a natural step.

Over this side of the world (in the land of Socialism - thank you for the FREE fibre optic broadband ) we struggle with this question daily .....if only we had folks from da gubberment with guns who would board us regularly at sea to help guide us......

......or failing the arrival of such freedoms - perhaps the answer is to ask self: WWJD?

You probably want to avoid France then .....and the Pissoirs!

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

I think there is a solution that would suit both sexes .

A Bucket (in the cockpit).

An easy (and fun!) target for the guys (with any spillage not an issue) - and for the ladies it gives them plenty of room and saves risking clogging the head with tissue and unneccesarily filling the holding tank.

Everyone a winner .

Mauritz,
ROW bathes in a 'bathroom' and urinates etc. in a urinal in a public 'toilet', we try not to confuse the issue here. We are a simple people.
Please, if you again see the stainless wall, or the classic porcelain, do not attempt to bathe there, it may confuse the locals.
Can't comment on your olfactory disdain as I don't know what you expect a regional public toilet to smell like, though I suggest you don't go to remote areas where 'the long drop' may still be in use.
As DOJ says the French, power to them, do their best to avoid confusion by their aptly named public conveniences, Pissoir, there's poetry in practicality though their hotels do confuse me with tricky fountains so close to the throne! Yechh!
Even in backward Australia we've raised our drinking fountains to more sensible heights, you can fill a bottle from them, try that in France!
Cheers,
Mac

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

Isn't there a German word for guys who pee sitting down? Sitzsprinkler or something. Implies that the bloke is bit of a "ginger" and thus not very macho.
