Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

It depends on the cruise, but often I pee off the boat and am usually standing when doing so, but sometimes kneeling.

If I'm using the head underway, I often wedge myself up against one wall for stability.

If you want to sit, then sit, you don't need our permission.

I might take a few more liberties on that one but not many. I'm a little lazy about the rules because I've had fairly flat and boring conditions for the last year. When we get out of the Sea of Cortez and into the Pacific again I imagine my game-face will be on as soon as I feel the swells.

Today it's a 1' SW swell at 13 seconds.... if you manage to fall in the water out here you sort of had it coming.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

I am kind of like a dog, when ever I come into or leave a new harbor, or come into or leave an old harbor on a new to me boat, for the first time, I "mark" it, on the way out or on way in depending. Maybe that imprints the harbor on my memory so I can find my way back if ever I need to.

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

I have this sign on the wall in the head.
There is also not enough headroom to stand up for anyone over 1m65 so it might not be really needed.

I usually do it standing up over the side but I do have a Bosns chair with an appropriately located hole that I clip onto the bow pulpit an swing out over the side if the need arises. Saves having to pump out and works well even in port since I always back the boat into the slip.

i have never sat down to do it. if underway then use a jug .. which is also easy to empty overboard and coast guard approved.

Yup! Over the side too, except when it's really bumpy then I'll use the cockpit drain.

As I'm Captain of the Heads on our boat, I reckon I can pee a whatever an angle I like.

I have no qualms about any method that leaves the boat clean and habitable for other crew.

Bottom line: There's nothing unsalty about sitting down.

No peeing overboard. My foul weather pants are such that I cannot pee overboard. If I am not wearing foulies, I wear hiking pants with no fly. The clothing choice is a consequence, not a cause.

Even the manuals that I use to teach each of the standards indicates that all performances are seated. The aperture on a head is a lot smaller that the one on my toilets at home. In addition, seating minimizes the amount of pubic hair in the head (yep - I have seen it) and there is less splashing.

On trip from Newport, RI to St Barths we developed a fresh water leak, so we stooped using the head to pee. (I dislike electric heads). Peeing overboard became necessary. Fortunately on a Hylas 46 CC the aft deck is huge, the boat stable, and lots to hang on to. That was my only exception.

If you can go to the mast to reef... you can go there to pee...
Its the morons who pee off the stern who usually end up as a CG statistic...

Re: Do You Pee Standing Up

Using the head: sitting down. It's the policy, enforced by pee'r pressure.
