Yes. Free moorage in Santa Barbara. But it's nasty in the winter. Slips in Ventura are around $350-400 per month on the cheap end.

$100 (I think annually) for dinghy dock access and limited use of facilities in the marina in SB. Another... like $40 for monthly parking in SB marina. If living on the hook, plan for weekly overnight in the guest slip at the marina for water, pumpout, repairs, whatever. And overnights during storms.

I may just spend the winter in the marina in Ventura and spend summers on the hook in SB to save some cash.

Thanks for the input folks, everything is appreciated.

I saw a "Handy-Man" Special for a Bristol 35 for $1500 at Marco Island Marina in the Naples Daily News last week. Don't give up hope...just go on all those sites like Sailboatlistings.com, Boattraderonline, yachtworld, etc. you will find a deal. Believe me, I have missed out on some boats and then a few days or weeks later, have a gem fall into my lap. With this market, you should be able to get a 25-30 foot vessel cheap. They are out there..and people need the cash, believe it!

I found one, a Cal 34. Ended up having to borrow a bit of money to pay $12k, but with a full set of newer equipment, I'm quite happy with the purchase.

I'm still out of state and haven't been on the boat. I had to get a friend transfer the paperwork.

Going down next week. Will post pics :-)

Excited as hell!

A good place to look for very reasonably priced boats, on the east coast: Grabbagsail.com ....or .......University of Rhode Island Alumni website.

To HobieFan -

I'm in the same boat, pardon the pun, that you are. I'm looking for a boat, cheap but big. I'm 6' 3" so I'm thinking about 40' or so. Plan to circum nav the globe, taking my time. The idea is to find a boat, fix it up, then find two other solo boats to tandem with me. Be fun, I think, a bit safer, and I won't have someone at my elbows all the time.

Good luck, and if I see something you might be interested in, I'll let you know.
