Well, the story showed uup this morning in the San Diego newspaper, and now it's the second of April... so I'll retract my earlier post and say "poor bugger, what a nasty way to go'

Cheers,

Jim

I first suspected an April Fools joke also.
But the story showed up on several different news sites, so it appeared to not be a joke. I should have mentioned that when I first posted the story.

If he swallowed the fish head first the dorsal fins would have prevented him from pulling it out.

The story reports he tried to swallow bait fish to entertain the kids. I've been out on these boats a lot: the bait fish is live anchovies. And I've seen guys swallow them to entertain/freak out kids. That sculpin/rockfish-looking thing in the photo is some kid's catch, not a bait fish.
