Day brightener for southerners

First storm of the year hit yesterday and continues today. Rain, then freezing rain, ice pellets, snow, winds. Normal winter nasty stuff. We've got 4 inches on the ground and another 5 or 6 to come today.

Just thought this might brighten the day of all you lucky buggars down south, no matter how bad your day is its gotta be better than this!

Today's forecast:
Snow at times heavy. Snow mixed with ice pellets and freezing rain this morning. Snow and ice pellet amount 10 to 15 cm. Wind northeast 20 km/h. Temperature falling to minus 4 by evening.

It's raining this morning at Fernandina Beach, FL. but it's 75 degrees. I think they need the rain here but I was intending to finish waxing the topsides. Oh well, maybe tomorrow. I was only going to put in half a day as it's the Thanksgiving get together today. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. One of the perks of heading south, we get two Thanksgivings.

It's a dog run, good eye on your part.
I was watching out the window one day in a thunderstorm and that line got hit by lightning, thank god the dog wasn't on it! It's a wire line inside plastic, the plastic casing dropped to the ground some of it burning, some of it just rubbery plastic but all the wire inside was vapourized. Impressive display of light and sound. Now if we could just harness that....

We're hauling the boat for a power wash today, installing the new DVD player and heading to Malaysia tomorrow.

I think I'll shovel the snow off the drive first - NOT!

Spend five years living in Ontario ,had enough , move to sunny Okanagan and never looked back . Hardly ever snows on the valley bottom, if you want snow, just drive half an hour in to the mountains ant there is lot of white stuff . Lake Okanagan never freezes , so we get to sail year round . Glad I don't live there any more.

It's gone from frost just two weeks ago to searing heat (30DegC) this week. Not a lot in between and it is taking some getting used to. OK so that ain't real hot, but it shouldn't be that high yet. We should be at least 6 weeks to two months away from these temps.

Tie-wrap a snow shovel to your bowsprit (or cover your binnacle with a toque), and sail South (or North) ‘till someone asks what “that thing” is up front. You’ve just entered a civilized cruising climate.
Was 7 degrees F (-14C) on my way to work this AM.

One day I was shoveling my driveway after receiving 6 inches of that nasty wet snow. I finally get to the end of the driveway, where it meets the street. Don't you know that a snowplow comes by and dumps 3 feet on snow on my newly shoveled driveway.

I moved to Florida 3 months later vowing never to shovel that nasty white stuff again.

I’m certain that the phrase “one day” couldn’t have been intended literally. As every Canadian knows, this happens virtually every time; and that what the plow dumps is more like ice, than snow.

Live in the big city. Our plows have another blade at the rear end that they drop which clears out the drive entrances. At least this is what they tell me.

Here's a thought for you do-it-yourself sailors with snow blowers:

Let the neighbor's shovel the first decent snow, but break out the snow blower for the rest of the season. The good might even last until next spring when you test the outboard in a trash can of water or fiberglassing the dinghy in the driveway or take advantage of the longer days to run power tools all hours

Gord... that "one day" was the very last straw... a more temperate climate was in order. Incidently it's 70 degrees here today (smile)

Out here in the M.E. the weather is getting nicer, 20 C at night 30 C in the daytime. Beats 45C in the daytime a few months ago. Only sand to shovel if you are into shovelling. I would love to see a snow fall out here. The locals would freak out. The Canadians would be having snowball fights in shorts. LOL
