Generally yes, summer months the winds and waves are generally much calmer and generally you can plan around hurricanes. BUT, sometimes generally doesn't apply. You don't always get a long lead time before a hurricane or tropical depression hits. Yes if a low forms off the coast of Africa it is usually tracked for days or even weeks before it hits. But a low can form much closer and be there in a day or two.

If you watch the weather risk of being caught at sea still small, but you could be stuck on land in the middle of a hurricane without time to get away.

Anybody have any thoughts about what kind of anchor i should have? Most pwc use a fold up one in a bag. Not sure how much line to have either. The pwc capacity is 528# I weigh 208#. So I have to be a little careful. My list of carried items is so far about 160#.

A Fortress anchor is very light weight, strong, good holding power, but not real good on some bottom types. Could be a good solution for you though.

The Pilot Chart is what you want. Its an assembly of a couple hundred years of data. You probably have to buy it though. I don't think you can view it online anywhere.

If you have to do it ..... - I would really consider a custom hydro trailer (hydro-trailer.com I have no connection to them) and have a fuel tank as the bottom of the trailer with a quick connect (ie tank 2) with your gear above it. I would also consider a surf kite as secondary propulsion and to assist in visibility when! the engine fails (you will have to figure out steering for the ski if you kite)

I am working with Ladd Biro of Champion Management. He helped John Moffatt get some sponsorships including one from seadoo. John broke world record for distance twice. So far we have not received any sponsorship but I am hopeful.

I still think the idea of a chase boat is very valid. It can also carry your fuel saving you weight; unless, this goes against the Guinness people for being self sufficient...

The kite is a neat idea. You may want to think about a spotter balloon, even with a EPIRB, a jet ski is very hard to spot from a distance in bad weather and visibility

Somehow I guessed you guys in this forum would try and change my jetski into a sailboat! LOL

I have sailed without a rudder on a 16' cape cod mercury with main and jib. Think you could sail a jetski with a homemade rudder and a kite?

Having other people around is certainly a good idea. If others were in route behind me they could pick up the pieces if something should happen. I think there would be speed differances between the vessles. I looked for ferry's that perhaps I could ride behind but it seems this type of network is very limited.
