Crazy from the Cold

Title says it!

Been 1.5 months since the boat got hauled for winter storage. I'm bored!!!

Went to the boat the other day when it was 20-30 degrees out (that's F for you metric folks). Got a little heater to take with me so I could work on little BS maintenance items that could just as well waited till March when it was warmer.

Must stay focused on THE PLAN to make it though this winter and next 4.

In the words of the great Canadian pilosopher Red Green, "We're pullin' for you. Remember we're all in this together!".

The rain's driving me crazy. December averages 35" of precipitation here and January not much better. That's a lot of rain though I think some might fall as fog! In 1928 and then again in 1937 they recorded about 22" in one day. I guess that coould be viewed as getting it over in a hurry?

Next time... apart from just the heater.. take along a bottle of wine or a 6 pack.. your favourite boat music and a friend... climb on board, plug in heater n music, unplug bottle/s sit back as if at anchor on a wet windy day and swop sea stories... you'll go home feeling great

I feel much better after reading this thread. Was getting real down because I couldn't get the boat ready to splash. Thank you.

Are you guys kidding me?
We got 30 inches of snow in three days. That's almost as much as there was all last winter. In Beeton, a little ways south, they got 38 inches. That's just in one storm. It won't stop friggin' snowing.
CBC News - Canada - More snow forecast for southern Ontario

Almost 300 people were stranded on the highway near Sarnia this week. Even snowplows were being abandoned. The military had to evacuate some of them by helicopter.
Hundreds rescued after being stranded on highway near Sarnia, Ont. - The Globe and Mail

We also had a couple of days of -20 to -26 celcius (-15 F), though it's a relatively balmy -10 C now.

Guess I shouldn't say I spent the day varnishing (in shorts only), got sweaty, then rode the bicycle to the pool and went for a dip.... naaa, probably not

In a few days, despite it being FREEZING here, the kids will be off school and we'll take the boat for a "3 hour tour". Nah - just downtown for a few days and nights and pretend we're boating. Just something about being on the boat makes us all feel good. Follow boatman61's advice - go to your boat, bring some heat, some vino, and daydream. Its easier when you're kinda already there.... Cheers,
Bill

Don't worry. I'll just go over to the "How much does your slip cost" thread & make myself feel better.

Every time I see a discussion complaining about weather makes me wonder why they choose to live there.

I go down to the boat in the winter, turn the heaters, and... do nothing. The nice thing about visiting the boat in the winter is that you DON'T have to feel guilt about doing something. Just listen to the wind and read.

Don't try to force pain or adhesives below their temps. It's a risk.

Sometimes I do sail, if it's nice. But often not.

I'm not complaining, been in a blizzard for the past couple of days. -36 Celcius and all highways out of town closed! Where a m I u ask? Fort Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. So far north you have to look south to see the northern lights! But thats ok we have plenty of rum, and in 2 days I drive 20 hours south to view the the boat that may be mine, which is why I'm up here in the first place.

Ha! Don't pretend you're somewhere exotic and out of the way. Google's StreetMap vans have been there so it's not that out of the way....

fort nelson british columbia - Google Maps

[edit: Hmmm... I can't seem to get the street map viewer to embed correctly. Oh well... Fort Nelson's revenge. I guess this is what happens when you deal with these places that are way, way out of civilisation up there on the edge of the polar cap.....]
