Couple Flees America, Gets Tax Payer Rides Home

Religious family abandons US, gets lost at sea - SFGate

Quote:
Hannah Gastonguay, 26, said Saturday that she and her husband "decided to take a leap of faith and see where God led us" when they took their two small children and her father-in-law and set sail from San Diego for the tiny island nation of Kiribati in May.

It's like every week there's someone getting rescued off a boat these days who has no idea wtf they are doing.

Sure is. And to check out for Kiribati! That place is a real pit. Soon it may not even exist anymore. Serious problems there.

You don't need to know what you're doing. You just need faith in the lord Jesus Christ, our savior.

and maybe the coast guard...

They do not have access to Noonsite in Northern Arizona???

KIRIBATI "...A visitor's permit is normally issued on arrival, for one month, with extensions of one month at a time up to four months..."

I bet they will love their new homeland, Chile is a hell of a place and so full of God.

I wonder if they got any encouragement from the CF "oh just go sailing" crowd?

Normally, nature takes care of meek folks; survival of the fittest. Glad no one died, though.

As a long term expat, is it just my perception, or does the USA have a higher incidence of such nut cases than any other country? The religous loonies, the preppers, etc I meet always seem to be American.

Apparently they missed the chapter about the storm where the sailors threw Jonah overboard, or Paul's boat wrecked (was it twice?), or the storm was so bad the disciples completely freaked out even though Jesus himself was in the boat in the flesh.

IF there is any doubt about loonies in USA, just read this:

NJ License Photos: No Smiling and No Wearing a Pasta Strainer on Your Head - Police & Fire - South Brunswick, NJ Patch

Of course the Austrian in story does not help their country's plea for saneness either.

Why is anyone surprised? America was the original destination for religious nuts leaving Europe and on sail boats no less. It's the European's fault I tell you...

Love them Pastafarians. That's not crazy -- it's sanity wrapped in a good sense of humor.
