Re: containers

I don't think it's looting if it's in international waters. That's called salvage.

Okay, now that there is funny, I don't care who ya are!

I know, people put "LOL" in posts all the time, but this time I really did. Read that and laughed out loud. My wife was walking by and had to ask me what was so funny.

Re: containers

I think a better question might be, have you ever seen a shipping container in the water?

I thought "luted" might be slipping it a "lude" as in a sedative? I had no idea what the question was.

I think it's PERFECT answer, and gave me a good chuckle.

Good job!

Tsk... tsk: I don't see how you are going to find true happiness on CF.

A completely overlooked advantage of sailing monohulls is the constant honing of balance and the ability to roll with the occasional humourous malaprop.

We all know what the OP meant ....... So joking aside have you ever had any experience with LOOTING a shipping container as described in the OP?

Geez Louise. I see you are seriously serious about getting an answer. I doubt any CFer (with a couple of obvious exceptions) would admit to such a find, albeit it container or grouper.

The OP is likely a snowbound guy in Montana relieving some boredom or could be the recovery arm of the Medellín Cartel (or DEA and associated alphabet agencies, some of which don't even exist) hoping to get lucky and find a dumped shipment by trolling CF. An inexpensive way to get something back imo. Could be a roomful of techno nerds employed by some ... ah ...adventurers with worldwide interests and capabilities. Long odds but the stakes are high. Like the lottery. It's nuts to play ... except that people win bucks every day.

This is the internet. Google is wonderful I grant you. Wikipedia is worth far more to me than my couple of degrees. Cheaper too. But thar be dragons: that nublie 14 yr old in the chat room could be the FBI or worse, a Jeffrey Dahmer wannabe. Dinner and a movie, hon? Every time someone one fills out the info for a cheaper car insurance or life insurance quote, the data goes more than one place doncha know.

I know we all realize this anonymous internet is not even remotely anonymous. And I don't mean to insult you, Captain Mottseng. If this had been a serious question about boating, I would have resisted mouthing off til the question had been answered as most of us high-jinxing, good-time-Charlies usually do.

Smart people really can hack into the Pentagon. Few things surprise me anymore, although your response did.

Whew! Help me off this soap box, getting a nosebleed.

Well I know a few wash up on the Sicily Isles from time to time.. and the islanders have a field day.. but afloat..? I doubt it.. think even if you managed to open the door it'd go down to fast for any Luting... once the water starts flooding in..

Re: containers

I would think the only way they could float is if they were full of something buoyant. I've packed several, we even ship aircraft in them, and none I've packed look even remotely water proof, resistant maybe, but the doors are just like the doors on a big truck trailer
