Why yes, David there was a time when we enjoyed piece. Remember 1939? YOUR country was at war and we wanted no part of it. When Roosevelt sighed the Lend/Lease program he was worried about impeachment.
Then Churchill came over and Roosevelt came across. But I forgot, you are from the younger generation, history is not your strong subject.

And when Hitler declared war on us, Churchill celebrated knowing his England would survive!

Just maybe we could have enjoyed a better economy during the post war period if Europe paid for its own defense, something very long overdue. The time has come for my Country to get out of the WAR BUSINESS, close overseas bases. Time for Europe to get serious about defending themselves.

By the way, how many European aircraft carriers are there? two---three??? You get the idea!
We better enjoyed peace than piece, I suppose.

Stalinism failed.

The countries with the highest social mobility and least income disparity have a history of social democracy.

Not really any point saying that without asking why. It's changing almost instantaneously now, if human greenhouse gas emissions don't play a part then why is it happening? Solar variance doesn't seem to match, any other ideas?

Also, if greenhouse gasses are having no effect then why not? That science has been around for a couple of centuries and seems pretty much universally accepted, do you think science needs to start again with that?

Climatologists were the ones who told you that.

Here is some of the evidence.

Mother Nature did a really good job of creating an environment that was suitable for human habitation; CO2 was never above 300 ppm. The natural cycles (Milkanovitch, CO2 cycles, etc.) did a great job until we started dumping millions of years of stored CO2 into the atmosphere by burning fossils fuels. Now CO2 is approaching 400 ppm. We messed with the earth's thermostat and climatologists are telling us that this sustainable.

Well, there was that whole Carboniferous period when CO2 hit 800 ppm. This was before they invented powerboats, of course.

During the Carboniferous period what was the human population? Did the plant life support a human diet?

I prefer sipping rum straight up. No ice.

I also drink my scotch that way.

Re: Climate Change

Of course the Nuclear Power Plants are state owned - I have nothing against the Private Sector making money out of stuff , but some things are simply too important to be passed over to the Private Sector.......even if a price is paid on cost - but to balance that out a State does not need to make the same return on Capital, indeed it can even afford to lose money

Wasn't Chernobyl state owned?

The scientific community has switched to climate change , because what is happening is that AGW is causing climate change. Nobody is arguing AGW anymore , what people are now looking is the extent and timing of CC.
A previous poster said that George Bush did it. Somehow or other as much as the leftist media hated and derided George I cannot see them having taken it up quiet as enthusiastically as they have.

The theory that the CC boosters made the change because the warming had stopped even though the atmospheric CO2 was still increasing sounds more plausible to me.

Oh please this is one step up from " reds under the beds "
The Reds are no longer under the beds because they have all joined so called "Green" parties. The Australians call the "water melons", red on the inside and green on the outside.

Weather isn't climate. And There are still a lot of other influences at work. People forget that there are long term patterns like El Niño or the North Atlantic Oscillation. A summer with odd weather isn't that unusual.

If people would be more aware of what socialism is doing to the people it claims to champion it would not be so popular. I know people who grew up in the German Democratic Republic. You have no idea how bad that was.
Socialism is popular in Europe for the same reason the Tea Party is in The US: people are stupid.

In the US we are used to make a common mistake by mixing up Comunism and Socialism which are totally different.
