Swim to the breakwater with a poly rope (or use the dinghy if one exists) and then pull the boat in.

Pass the (extra long and strong) boat hook though a hole in the swimstep. When shallow enough, stab further into seabed. Pivot on new pole mooring.

Every boat should have an anchor. Not having one is just plain stupid.
Would you go out driving your car with no brakes?

Re: challenge: adrift, no anchor, no power, flat calm water

I would just flip the switch of my fuel boost pump and start the engine again. If I would be bothered enough, I would turn the valve to use a clean 2nd filter like shown above in the thread.

It is only when in trouble that most start realizing that some support and backup systems make sense; before that, they only cost money.

Put a couple of holes in the bottom, stick your feet through, and Fred Flintstone your way onto harbor...

Those other guys ideas sounded good too though....

What would I do? Probably run aground.. I would try to make an anchor and rode (stock pot, dock line, etc), but sounds like a call for a tow and then an insurance claim

That's why no one here would be without an anchor;-)

Re: challenge: adrift, no anchor, no power, flat calm water

sounds like you are thinking about what just happened to a flying dragon we all know and love.....i think the owner did just what he had to in his situation--even being newer than new lawngrass, he didnt kill boat--just went aground....as anyone would have.
in that situation, there really isnt anything to do except make sure when ye leave one area to have dinghy ready to use as a tow vessel.....at all times. even calling that marina for assistance would have helped him save his pride from major embarrassment.

Re: challenge: adrift, no anchor, no power, flat calm water

To all the sailors: the vessel is a 40 ton POWER boat.....
  • Very likely there is little to no rudder response or carry-on
  • Very likely there is no, boom, halyard, gooseneck, or sails

RH paints a bleak picture indeed, I think Mr. Berg has the correct answer

oops power boat--still have a dinghy ready fro use as a towboat or your seatoad ins up to date and card inhand--if in a different country, keep your dink deployed and at the ready.
