Boo Hoo, Boo Hoo

Great sadness

I spent two very happy years in this fine vessel.

That was something the way she split, and jumped out of the water. Did they gut her of bulkheads first?

Personally I think that's a very fitting way for a warship to end it's useful life. It saddens me to see them sit on battleship row simply to rust away.

Her sister ship was deliberately sunk as a dive site off busselton (SW Western Australia)

Its amazing the destructive force of a torpedo.

Don't feel so bad, the old Training Ship Golden Bear is sitting at Mare Island, Vallejo rusting away with "Art Ship" painted across her the bow. I have some fond memories and not so fond memories onboard her. I wish they would blow her up with a torpedo as well.

The Torpedo actually explodes some distance under the ship. The Bubble that is created actually first lifts the vessel and then the weight of the vessel is in an acually void...the weight in that unsupported area breaks the ships back....like a 200 lb guy standing on a 2x4 between two sawhorses.

Same principle that depth charges use.
