worst name we have seen "thats a good idea grandad"
allso have a boat in our marina called "panic"
we inherited our name "majika" and have grown very happy with it. as said befor you get known by the boat name.

as a cat we were going to call it "binary"

Our 1976 Oday 27 had a previous name of "Priority" however the logo was removed even before we acquired the boat.

So, we did the ceremony and renamed her "Booty Call". It's always amusing to be on the VHF and when people hear it, they immediately ask where we're at! LOL

We always joke around if we have to call the Coast Guard station here in Green Bay. LOL ..Bet they'd laugh too!

I can't help but remember a Flintstone's episode where Fred and Barney buy a boat and can't decide on the name, one coming up with "nautical queen" nad the other "sea queen" and they compromised with the first 3 letters of each name to make up "NauSea".

Good call - Aeolus is pushing the limit of offending the Gods. Names should not be too pompous, confrontational or presumptive.

Naming your boat after the God of Wind is a bit presumptive.

It's also very important to remember that you will be referred to in the community by your boat name. So if you want to be referred to as "Lucky Sperm" or 'Sea Snot" go right ahead - LOL.

I have been looking for a name for quite some time to name my next boat. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks...it should have been obvious to me a lot sooner.

I looked up the meaning of my wifes first name. It's a Romanian name where she is from originally. Her name translates to "from the sea". My next boat will be named Marinela. Perfect!

My wife now has my last name which means "of the sea". Her name translates to: "from the sea..of the sea". Does she have the perfect name for being a lover of the sea or what?

I have found that humorous names on boats are funny...once. Our boats take care of us while out on the open waters. You better give her a name that she will be happy with. Would you name your daughter "Aquaholic"? Boats are shes and really sound best with a feminine name....just my opinion.

When I was conducting a marine survey the other day I saw two sailboats with names I would not have considered!

One was "The Last Gasp", The other "heaven Bound"

Not true Gord. When I was a Kid, I often went around with a name on my rear end. It was put there by my Father and the letters were, "Size 10" outlined by a tread print. :-)

When my wife and I bought our boat new in 2002, we definitely did not want to christen her with a commonly used name. We finally managed to come up with a name for our boat that is unique (the only one in the USCG registry), feminine, and with a very personal connection.

Years ago, my family was in the lithography business. Back in the late 1800s, the plant in Richmond, Virginia, printed ornate, multi-colored labels for tobacco shippers. We had been collecting them, and came across one with the image of a southern belle, fan and all. It advertises a tobacco brand called The Belle of Virginia.

We had been trying to come up with a unique name for our new sailboat, with nothing really working, until I looked up at the lithograph in it's frame on the wall, and the lightning bolt hit me--The Belle of Virginia was the perfect name for our new Island Packet. I don't think it would work well with a Beneteau, for example, but it seems to fit a traditional boat design quite well.

my old girl is called 'periquita' its a wine from portugal i think...had the namr for 40 years! my parents are mooching around the med in a catamaran called pipers dream....
