Wasn't sure what topic to post this under, but thought it was newsworthy.
Off Singer Island, on Florida's Atlantic coast this a.m., a powerboat (around 30') carrying two men
exploded and burned. One man was thrown off the boat, the other jumped off. One of them subsequently died of his injuries, and the other is in serious condition with severe burns.
Apparently, the explosion occurred when they trid to start the boat. It has been speculated that gasoline fumes in the engine
compartment were the cause of the explosion. The boat burned to the waterline and sank.
A sobering tale for all boaters. I'm glad I have a diesel engine
. Our boat is berthed in a marina very close to where this occurred.
