Re: best sailing movies

+1 to Deep Water. For a lighter evening, +1 to Captain Ron. For the unsettling spectacle of Billy Zane grooving to his silent crazy, +1 to Dead Calm.

Master and Commander, The Far Side Of The World. I have all the movies mentioned so far, curious to see what I'm missing. BTW, Deep Water is about the Sunday Times Golden Globe race not the Vendee Globe.

The Wind.

Knife in the Water.

Cpt Ron does not seem to be much about sailing at all ... I think it is some sort of a cruising movie.

Don't know if this one counts as a "movie" but it's not an instructional video, Jean Du Sud Around The World has more sailing footage then any of my other movies. Another good one is "Drum".

Deep Water is about the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race held in 1968/1969 won by Robin Knox-Johnston. It was the 1st single handed, non-stop round the world race. The Vendee Globe was started by a Frenchman in 1979 & is run every 4 years.
