Whatcha mean she's ugly??

When we arrived in Auckland about 15 years ago, we were told by Kiwi friends that we'd just missed meeting "the ugliest boat in the world". 'Twas named "New Liverbird" or something like that, and had allegedly been built from an old water tank. The Kiwis were highly contemptuous of it.

A couple of years later we met up with these folks in New Caledonia. She (the boat) was no beauty to be sure, but in the intervening years she had completed her SECOND CIRCUMNAVIGATION, and was well into her third!! Very interesting family of three aboard, and we really enjoyed their company. They had bugger all cash, but were happily doing what most of their critics only talked about. They were well aware that they were not gonna win prizes at the boat show beauty contest, but they might well have been the featured cruisers!

As for us, esthetics are important, and we wouldn't be happy in a boat that didn't please us to look at. And yes, that factor would be a deal-breaker. But beauty is indeed an individual concept, and your views may vary!

Cheers,

Jim and Ann s/vInsatiable II lying Gladstone Qld z

For the right price, I'm sure! It does seem to have everything. It would have made a great Water World float.

Its true even the boating world there are deals that are to good to pass up, but unfortunately those deals usually for the ugliest boat at the dock and I came this close to buying it... in the end I couldnt do it, even if I would never find a deal even remotely close to it again in this life and probably the next.

early 80's maybe, 20' Grady White, cuddy cabin, nearly mint needed a outboard(which I had) and cleaning, had been abandoned the guy that had it just wanted what he had into it... $200
