Yo Big,

in Marina Vallarta, there is a surveyor whose name I believe is Doug Daniels, or Danielson. He does deliveries as well. He can be reached through his wife's boat canvas shop nextdoor to a popular waterside dive known to everyone as "Victor's".

The boatyard where you would haul for the survey is called "Opequimar". All they do is haul and launch. You must contract with local independent workers for any services.

***BUT***

Be aware that the Mexican laws prevent you from simply buying a boat there and sailing her home. I'm quite serious. The local brokers know how to work around this, but it isn't strictly legal.

Getting a boat ready for a voyage is a big hassle in a foreign country. And although labor is cheap, skilled workman are hard to find. And virtually everything boat-related will have to be imported ($$$). Because of this, the condition of boats there is generally worse than one might expect.

You would be wise to restrict your boat shopping to within your own country, if not your own area. Unless money is no object, and you are extremely experienced in these matters.

Be prepared for an ordeal.

best, andy
