I like how they imply the jellyfish and not overfishing is the reason for the anchovy decline. The article is a bit dramatic to me. How's that ( Mr ) Wrong for a denier?

I have been fascinated by jellyfish ever since I watched one sail on a close haul up a big wave in the Atlantic ( Portuguese Man-O-War).

With the deadly poisonous jelly fish, blue ringed octopus, cone shells, stone fish, tiger, bull and great white pointer sharks and man eating crocodiles which infest the waters and taipan, brown and black snakes, and funnel web spiders which infest the land it's a wonder anyone chooses to live in the place, however they do, are mostly water lovers and enjoy the outdoors.

I think Flannery wrote the review of the book, but it is not his book, nor his data. The author is Lisa-ann Gershwin, the book was published by University of Chicago Press, and the title is, Stung! On Jellyfish Blooms and the Future of the Ocean. Perhaps a look at the book and the data might clarify the situation, which I don't think we're in a position without that information to condemn it as catastrophist.

If you've never seen sharks up close and personal, I recommend that you SCUBA dive Rangiroa atoll/Tahiti - French Polynesia. After battling a high speed ocean current, you level off at about 60 ft underwater then sit tight at the bottom. Schools of Lemon Sharks swim by to assess if you taste good or should be left alone. Their distance from your face mask is about a foot. They keep encircling you, asking for a handout...after fifteen minutes at the bottom, they start attacking schools of mullets. I assure you that you will never ever forget this experience; an adrenaline rush, mildly put.

Yeah, there's always a BUT ...

I saw that show too. What's really scary is how small and practically invisible they are.

I don't think I want one. I like pets who come when they're called -- and you're GLAD to see them!!!

If that was the same one that I saw, it may have been a bit over-hyped. The way that they built the audience up on how dangerous they were, before the massive sting attack, almost seemed like an intentionally written script.

Don't get me wrong. There are dangerous jellyfish out there & Oz seems to have most of the really bad ones. A girl that I know visited out there a few years ago & ended up taking a trip to the hospital due to a box jellyfish sting. When I was younger, I got hit in the face by a Portuguese Man-o-war. That was also a doctor worthy event. Jellyfish have kept me from enjoying the water in several places that I have visited since. Most recently, Cinque Terre. I find them to be quite a nuisance at times.
