Well, old Nathaniel Herreshoff is probably happily flying a hull
on his catamaran
Amaryllis in that regatta
in the sky!
In 1876, Nathaniel Herreshoff entered Amaryllis, a 33-foot catamaran
, in a New York
Yacht Club Centennial Regatta
and won going away--nothing anywhere close--and was promptly banned from competition by the NYYC! Sailing development was virtually limited to monohulls for 100 years!
No more guessing--it has been announced that America's Cup 34 will be sailed in San Francisco
in the new America's Cup class AC72 catamaran by all competitors.
Even US Sail is getting involved--and they supported dropping the Tornado catamaran class from the 2012 Olympics!
