Aging Hippies Music Thread

This fine idea came from Coops and since it appears he and I fit the description of aging hippies, I thought I would start this thread. Music from the 60's, war protest, flower children, Woodstock, you get the idea. To start off, a couple of my favs from that era, that to this date I still know all the words to.....

Sorry, I just can't find the original in one part. As Arlo said "One big pile of garbage is better than two smaller piles, so instead of bringing that one up, we decided to throw ours down". So, if anyone can find the original, all on one player, please post so I can snag it. That way I'll have that one big pile, thanks.

Any other little ditties come to mind?
Post away my fellow flower children.

Did Edwin Starr do anything after this song?

I had the hardest time finding this one without the horrible images of war.

Re: "Aging hippies music thread"

"Ohio" is a protest song written and composed by Neil Young in reaction to the Kent State shootings of May 4, 1970, and performed by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

From my recollection as an 18 year old, this started the demise of the Nixon administration as it was Nixon that gave the order to the National Guard "fire upon them, that will disperse those little f******". , then later Watergate, and good bye Tricky Dick. I sure disliked that paranoid used car salesman.

Re: "Aging hippies music thread"

Contrary to popular belief, being a hippy was not accepted in either high school or college during the late 60's. The need to be accepted was then, as it is now, an important concept for young people, and I remember a lot of friends shunning me because of my beliefs. This thread has brought back a flood of intense memories for me. I feel the need to climb into my garage rafters and retrieve all the old b & w pictures I took and developed during that time. I have group shots of fellow protesters in front of the state capitol with armed police in the foreground. On a more positive note I also have pictures I had taken of pollution, covering two months of the very first Earth Day calendar back in either 1968 or 1969. My camera back then was a folding Weltex 2 1/4, so gave a good negative size for my darkroom work. There was a lot of good during that time, as we were unaware of the stunts to be pulled on us by Wall Street 40 years later.

How 'bout this. Couldn't find Bob doing it so here's another icon of the times, Peter Paul & Mary: "the times they are a changin'".

Re: "Aging hippies music thread"

Some of my favourites were form the english scene, not surprisingly, this first one is from the archetypal hippy band of the time.

Roy Harper, lovely looney, got real sick once from giving the kiss of life to one of his pet sheep.

And for the old and new Arlo fans, the pickle song, live.

More later

Coops.
