If it was down here in TX I'd say a huge catfish swimming into the hull to munch on algae...or some drum tight line/shround letting go? or a piece of an old soviet satellite that burned up on re-entry fell on deck?

I suppose my guess is for wildlife on the deck.

I've awoke to some big thuds from some birds you'd never think could be so loud.

San Diego, Illegals coming aboard ? Confused Navy SEALS looking for Coronado ? Mud slide ? Jumper from the Coronado bridge ??

side note: Driving up I5 north, the illegal crossing sign cracks me up, looks like a deer crossing sign but with a guy running dragging a woman and kid.

What's not so funny is they are starting to print t-shirts of that same sign, but they are dressed as pilgrims.

A gull dropping a mussel from the air onto your deck in order to crack it open? I see this all the time.

David M - I would agree, but Rebel said THUD ...not RAP or THWAPP. I like the idea of something falling out of the rigging ... radar/radar reflector - boom topping lift failing was a good one, bird into the rigging is a good one too.

It was 2:45AM in the morning. Maybe it's different up on top of the world, but down under, it is pitch black and most animals, especially birds, are sound asleep. So apart from a Pelican freezing solid and falling off it's perch, I would suggest something a little more of the non-animal kind.

Your in Sandy Eggo near the Navy base right? I know, but I will have to kill you if you tell anyone else. A Navy Seal team has placed an explosive device on your hull. Don't move! They will come back tomorrow night and remove it.
