Living Aboard on Kauai?

I had heard that it was impossible to find a place to live aboard on Kauai but someone recently said that there are ways to do it in or near Nawiliwili - does anyone have any info on that possibility? What are the regulations and slip/mooring availability there? Any info would be appreciated. thanks.

I just returned from Kauai after being there for 2 weeks. My girlfriends uncle lives on the island & has a fishing boat in a slip in Lihue. From what he said there are only 2 or 3 small marinas on the island & they all have at least a 5 year waiting list to get into.

There is a awesome anchoring spot in Hanalei Bay on Kauai during the summer months but in the winter there's no way you could be there. In the summer it's fairly calm but in the winter since it's on the north shore you'll see up to 15ft swells.

thanks for the reply and infjo, which sounds very much like all the islands - no place to put a boat. I was hoping there might be a place to anchor in Nawilili, not in the Marina but elsewhere. thanks again.
