Liveaboard in Hobart Tas Australia

Would anyone know if there are any Marinas in or near Hobart, that will allow Liveaboard? I'd like to do so on a Cruiser, yet to be bought.

Re: Liveaboard in Hobart Tas Australia

Hi Just now saw your question.

We spent 2 years, 2000-2001 in Hobart. Constitution Dock, central Hobart. It was an absolute highlight of our multi-year round the world journey. There is also the Dewent Sail Club and the Hobart Yacht Club. Both are good but not as convenient to the central city. Also both of these tend to be full with member yachts. Also a couple marina / yacht clubs across the Derwent River from Hobart, I forget the names.

Be forewarned Australian Customs is tough on your duration of stay. I am not sure of the current rules regarding foreign yachts.

Good Luck

Not sure if you would call it near Hobart but AFIK, the marina at Port Huon does - google has the contact details

Re: Liveaboard in Hobart Tas Australia

My understanding. Most marinas around Hobart & environs allow live-aboard. For long-term liveaboard, the major yacht clubs (Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Derwent Sailing Squadron, Bellerive Yacht Club) require full membership and you pay a live aboard premium over and above the fee for your berth. As far as I am aware, you can also live aboard at the Motor Yacht Club and at Prince of Wales Bay marina.

Outside of Hobart, you can live aboard at Kettering and Port Huon as well.

The waiting list for berths at some of the aforementioned marinas may be a problem.
