I watch DrakeParagon. This is a real guy with a old boat and invested his money during the tech boom and didn't lose it. He is paired up with a very nice partner who unfortunately doesnt look good in a swimsuit and they are trying to cruise on a limited budget.His films are real and well edited .The one compaint I have with his video is the story moves too slow.

Follow the Boat. These guy are great fun. There Thai refit series is worth the price of admission.

Keep turning Left. Awesome show about old guys sailing around the UK in a small boat.
His filming and narration will keep you watching for hours and he does it without Adsence money


Delos.Started about a guy and his brother and a couple gold digger GF's sailing.He apparently got a big golden parachute from some company he was involved with got sold and spent too much money on a boat. After the first big couple of seasons he ran out of money and the crew went home. He took a course on internet marketing and turned it into a business. Around 350k US$ a year now. Plenty to keep going as long as idiots send in there Patreon money or buy/view his other internet offerings. I dont watch anymore.Went reality show in a big way...all scripted now.

LA Vagabond. This couple are energetic and great to look at . there cinematic talents are no where near DrakeParagon levels but she looks good in a swimsuit and they have a down to earth bluecolar vibe about them that people like.

He is a construction diver...they make good bank because its very dangerous so he bought a used charter boat in the med and sailed off intending to take it back to Aussie but the GF turned home movies into a big hit and now they are looking at 200k a year.People say they were given a 1 million dollar boat.I doubt this.More likely if the videos stop or they fall below a certain threshold the boat goes back.But Good on them. but I dont watch anymore cuz they went corporate and multihull and I have no interest in either

^^^^Vagabond going multi-hull? I'd bet a few dollars that turns away many sailboat owners. Especially when she gushes about how much better it is. She would do well to remember that single hull outsells multi hull by over 10 to 1. That may mean that 10 times as many of their viewers own sailboats vs catamarans.

Catamarans costs too much.
Mooring and slips and pull outs costs twice as much per foot.
If your cat pitch poles in heavy seas, you are in for a rough time of it. Sailboats are supposed to be self righting. I doubt that always works out though. I've seen the keel break in a Roaring 40's race video that is well worth watching. I'm not sure if his boat was cheaply made or what.

Free markets determine if someone had a saleable product, if they didn't have a good product that filled a need no one would pay for it, obviously there is a demand for what they are selling, " the dream"...How much time they put into it is know one elses business.

Still can't find a channel to beat Delos. They just have all the pieces: superb and improving shooting and editing skills, an easy-on-the-eyes crew that is large enough not to get boring (the problem with single and couple vlogs), exotic cruising grounds and just generally a good vibe. People here have commented that there is too much skin, but for me it does not come across that way, may have been like that in the early episodes. I'm grateful they supply the content for free, but I do tip the beer fund every now and then. It's a good substitute to being on the water during the long winter here.

Ran sailing is also good, but I'm not such a big fan of LaVagabond.

PortClydeMe continues his strange crusade in this thread, nothing new there and it's fun to read. I wish he would try out his skills in video making. Oh, but he needs that boat first.

That's cool. It's not a strange crusade. I'm just pointing out what I think about this new "retire in the tropics on Patreon support money" game. I think it's VERY cool! If it continues, and ever more "home video" sailors cash in on Internet money from strangers, we'll be showing our "charm" and our "video skills" - 4+ times per month. At $9K per video upload, that is $430,000.00 per year - not counting coffee cups and t-shirts. Pretty damn cool way to sail around. It's got MY vote!

Haha. Exactly! Not that anyone is making those numbers with sailing videos, but if they were I'd be happy for them. Delos provides much better value for me in entertainment than any commercial tv channel for example and have earned every penny they get (and working pretty hard at it too).

But it seems to me you're trolling yourself with this subject and spending your valuable time typing the same thing over and over on an anonymous forum board

Oh yes, they ARE now making those numbers. Do you know how to check the "Patreon" money they each make per upload? I can teach you, if you don't.

1) SVD = $8,948 per upload = approx. $500K per year, not counting coffee cups, t-shirts, or "side business", if they have one.

2) SLV = $8,956 per upload = approx the same ($$$) per year.

How do you think these folks are shopping for new million-dollar yachts? It's pretty easy to figure out. Thank you patrons!

Again, I think it's a VERY cool home business model.

Actually, I find the "donations" mildly offensive. To me a donation has a connotation that it is someone in dire straights and the are in need of help. You donate to the poor. You donate to people who have gone thru disaster.

If you are out cruising, having a good time, it doesn't apply. It strikes me that they are trying to manipulate you by using a term that implies they are in trouble to trigger you to throw some cash their way.

If they want to charge an access fee (even if it's voluntary), that's totally different. That is being honest about the situation.

It's not automatic that I will stop with a site if they ask for donations but if it becomes frequent, I usually stop using their site.
