As for me, I don't have a problem with someone uploading bikinis. Easy enough to change the program. Some of use often prefer a little clothing to porn at times. I have to be in the right mood for porn and that is more rare than being in the mood for bikinis.

I have wondered how a liveaboard youtuber would fair if their partner really "filled out" their bikini. Many would hate, others would not. Most of us would still search for the higher quality videos that deal with sailing I'll bet. Bikini strewn videos never have a big box office. They were relegated to the bargain bin of the video store.....99 cent rental material. I suspect they have pretty well quit making them.

I think there would be a market for a fearless adventurer that did stuff like Cape Horn, Roaring 40's etc. I love watching stormy boating while staying dry.
OK. Now I'm lost. You are the OP. Did you not understand my original response? It was lengthy, and should have given you much to consider.

Have a nice day.

There have been 45 responses to consider. Some are thoughtful, others are insightful. Others seem to be filled with jealousy and hate.

Here is a novel concept. Why don't you just spend your money the way you want, and we'll do the same. That makes me happy. Does that make you happy?

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

There are differences between writing books and articles and creating most of the YouTube video channels mentioned. The primary product differences are the variety, quantity , and depth of information presented to the consumer. There are studies about this. Note most nightly news is only 18 minutes long (with 12 minutes of interspersed commercials). If you really want to understand the what is happening in your world, reading is much better than listening, which is better than viewing. Amazingly, this is true even if there aren't any commercial interruptions. There are people that are only viewing these videos for entertainment value and aren't seeking information. There is no accounting for taste, and to each, their own.

BTW, I have watched some of the videos, and liked most of them, but I'm looking for info, not drama, or T&A.

Yes, most are entertainment. Nothing wrong with that. there are books written by sailors that dig into their lives and are not technical.
There are also a lot of articles in water sports magazines that have no educational value.

there are some good tech video channels like boatworks today

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

I would argue that there are many, many more venues offering higher quality entertainment than those mentioned.

That's a question of taste. It has nothing to do with the fact that, in essence, there is no difference from somebody making money writing articles or (e-)books or somebody making video's. It's a creative process where the creator tries to make something that is appreciated by others.

the big difference is that the business model used by vloggers is based on views and sites as Patreon where the buyer decides how much he's willing to pay.

BTW don't forget that cruising lifestyle video's are not new. Distant Shores has been on TV loooong before vlogging became feasible, affordable and popular.

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

The hate is strong in this thread.

People give money because these people are entertaining them. No different than paying to see a band or paying for cable TV. And people complaining about commercialization, do you change the channel on the Tv when a commercial comes on? It's part of the deal, in happy for these people. It's capitalism at its finest. They have a product that someone else is willing to pay for, even though they don't have to. Haters gonna hate, it's what they do.

What many fail to recognize or admit is that there is a growing movement to hate Capitalism, ergo, anyone who succeeds at Capitalism is attacked, hated and must be brought down to size. Welcome to 2017, where the vehicle that has raised more poor out of poverty and fed more hungry mouths than any other form or Economic System in the history of the world is attacked.

Now understand the WHY this is happening...and you get the golden prize.

It's not hate, it's logical common sense. For those that still don't understand, here's a tad more to think about:

1) If home movies entertain you, watch them. YouTube is FREE. Why pay?
2) If you want cable TV or wish to see a live band, it's NOT FREE. Go ahead, pay if you want it. Don't pay if you don't.
3) If you pay people that upload home movies, please guess where your money went. Yes, that's correct! Your money left your wallet and went to their stock broker. If you want to give money to another person's stock broker, then go ahead. Me personally? I prefer to watch their home movies for FREE and give MY MONEY to MY STOCK BROKER. Please do whatever you wish.

This thread -- and this whole topic in general -- makes me laugh. It's so good. For example, I think that I will visit my local FORD dealer today, because I really want the new Mustang GT. When the salesman tells me how much money the dealership wants for my new car, I'm going to say "No way! I absolutely LOVE Mustang GTs, and I LOVE the Ford Motor Company. I refuse to buy this car unless you allow me to pay $5,000 to $10,000 over sticker! It will show my LOVE for Ford and the Mustang. I really wanna help. In fact, let's take it one step further. After I buy the car for WAY TOO MUCH money and drive away, I'm going to keep visiting your dealership every week and give you $100 cash ... for the rest of my life ... because it might help Ford design an even BETTER Mustang GT. Write me up, champ! Where do I sign?"

We're not discussing the Net. We're discussing people that want to give away their hard-earned money for something that is FREE. Do you understand the word "FREE"?

Not true...that's what I think you are not understanding, we are indeed talking about "The Net" and specifically how the "Free Content" you have come to love and adore is paid for. You don't really think all your keystrokes, web browser history, search terms and clicks is not monetized do you? Every day you are online you are making money for those that are bringing you the "free content". Take this lovely Cruising Forum for example, you don't think it's really free do you? The web hosting, domain, software updates and upgrades....who do you think is paying for all your Free Entertainment?

Understanding the world behind the lights, glitter and clicks gives you a little more insight and appreciation for those that have gotten you to pay your money for things you think you are getting for free. That my friend is marketing data mining genius.

Wait....you did read the Terms of Service when signing up for those free sights right....opps.....

You give money to this forum? Really? I don't. Do you know WHY I don't? Because IT IS FREE. It is absolutely, and without question, FREE. It's like EVERYTHING in life. Who buys things that are FREE? You? Really? OK.
