Year-Round Boater

I have decided to call myself ( a liveaboard) a year round boater instead.
Far too many people have accused me of not paying any taxes among other things. One *gentleman * recently suggested we only did this because we could not afford a real place to live. We poor folks should not be allowed to do this. I object to his opinion on many levels, that I will not go into here.
People generally want to know a few things..." Am I cold?" Generally speaking I tell them I know I live in Canada , require and apply the needed amount of heat. It is in fact winter outside wether I live on dirt or on water .
One man today seemed a bit confused when I said I was a year round boater. Which actually was kind of fun for me.
Whatever you are doing out there I hope you are having fun, I know I am.

I'am a almost year round boater, just to cold & icy here on the upper Mississippi. I'll go home for thanksgiving & be back in mid march. If I had diesel heat I might try to stay, better plan would be to paddle south.

Re: Year-Round Boater

We have gone south, unfortunately not being retired as yet, it is not an option as an every year solution for us. So in our environment (Canada) we batten down the hatches, prepare the boat for winter and proceed with our lives.
thruthfully, it is winter outside wether I live on a boat or on dirt.
We have a diesel heater, which puts out too much heat actually for all but the coldest of weather (-40) for all other weather we use two small electrical heaters.
The adventure continutes.

Re: Year-Round Boater

hmmm. Here in California we all tend to be year-round boaters. The term doesn't connote quite the same thing as "liveaboard" in these parts.

Re: Year-Round Boater

To me, a year-round boater sounds like someone who resides in a warm climate and goes boating most anytime.

Re: Year-Round Boater

While lake ontario does not freeze , at least the whole lake does not, the harbours do. So I cannot generally sail in the winter. We have sailed on new years day! Our boat floats all year, we maintain her, and use her year round... hence year round boaters.
