yeah I think I got that .....

fwiw (I believe that means 'for what its worth') both Sail Magazine and Cruising World have criticized other similar Beneteau designs (34 and 38) for the lack of hand holds

ostensibly it doesnt have a whole to do with open bulkheads, and the images were provided as contemporary illustrations of some of the engineering involved in that

but by all means continue on the path of how to not fix the handhold issue as though its impossible, Ill probably be giving that particular passion a pass.

Re: Would like an open plan, though will I undermine hull Integrity?

Which bulkhead are you talking about? Oval door or open one?
Is 17mm the total thickness? (11/16") <1/8" glass, 1/2" foam, <1/8" glass?
If so, that's a lightly built boat, I would leave bulkheads very substantial. They are probably part of the whole design concept.
I must be a terrible reader, I thought this thread was about bulkheads not hand holds.... here we go again...

Just rig a jackline along the centerline when going offshore. Makes for a nice surface to lean against, hand hold, and you can even clip in

Might need to clip it at overhead height if the bulkheads or anything else can't support the inward pull

You will, but why should you care if your going to use the boat in calm waters? Plus as long as you have life insurance, what the heck, do it.

Re: Would like an open plan, though will I undermine hull Integrity?

Excellent thread since -
A) we can't see overhead to determine if there are no hand rails mounted there. We can see laminated beams which would be easy peasy to add hand rails to.
B) there is very obviously a stainless steel hand rail visible in the first photo, just inboard of the tv mounted on the port side aft bulkhead.

How did this get to rails. I thought it was about a bulkhead being cut out some on a boat built with C-flex. For a one offs Bill Seemans came up with the best thing since sliced bread with C-flex.

Refering to the open bulkhead separating that
unworkable small galley, my question was relating to the potential of rebuilding a larger workable galley
why they designed such a small galley in the original plans for a so called Passage making "Bluewater" yacht who knows.

Re: Would like an open plan, though will I undermine hull Integrity?

Maybe redesigning a new galley in that existing galley area & incorporating bench space where the quarter berth extends out slightly might be an easier plan rather than extending the galley through into the saloon, probably better to keep a larger saloon than minimise it. Could someone possibly draft up their idea for a galley plan for this spot and post it. thanks.

Questions-

Do you have a cabin top mounted traveler for the main? If so where is it attached relative to the bulkhead?

Is your only access to the starboard quarter berth though the cut out shown? Or can you get at it from a cockpit locker? Would you be okay with eliminating the access shown in favor of a better galley? If there is no cockpit locker access would you be comfortable creating one in favor of a better galley?

What does the port side arrangement look like? Is there a nav station? Can you post a photo?

I see "Boat Sales Tasmania" on some of the photos. I looked at their site but didn't see this boat but maybe missed it. Is this a boat you bought? Or one you are considering buying?
