The 40 foot cabin cruiser beside my boat sunk in Frenchmans bay two days ago... The salvage company did a great job in re-floating it.....thank god for insurance

Well weather is at it again winds gusting to 100 k our boat has been healed way over in the last hour and just watching our shrink wrap hoping it does not become a kite. These are the worst winds thus far this winter hope spring comes soon.

Hope things hold together for you. I gotta say, this winter is not inspiring me to try liveaboard for 2015 when we get down your way. I think we'll just pull our boat and head to warmer climes next winter.

Yes, Canadians are a hardy bunch - you have to be. I'm from Toronto BUT thankfully am in Rio Dulce for the winter. Our family up in Ontario and Quebec say it's the worst winter they've EVER experienced -- now, that says a lot.

As an aside, I find it interesting (read frustrating) that Toronto by-laws permit winter liveaboards on boats, yet does NOT permit residing in an RV anywhere within the city limits, be it winter or summer.

I lived aboard Oct. 1993 - May 2001, winters in Frenchman's Bay, summers at Ontario Place. My first winter, 93/94, was even colder than this year, but that winter the Pickering nuclear power plant was still fully operational and putting warm water into the bay, so the ice was not too bad. The following winter was mild, but the ice was worse because the power plant broke down in December '94.

Sad to hear about Port Credit ending as a viable live-aboard marina, the development pressures are intense all around the Great Lakes, but very glad that Mimico C.C. is now hosting boats (I live very close by and see them there). In the late 90's, PCYC saved themselves by hosting winter live-aboards and later offering them attractive membership joining offers.

Well we've had 17 days of high winds and deep freeze now today we have received almost a foot of snow with the wind to pick up. Seems we are getting everything this winter, the only thing left to wait for will be the moving ice when the thaw shows up. Hoping for an early spring.

I'm a winter liveaboard at Mimico, but I'm not sure what the situation is for accepting new liveaboards. I know there are a bunch of people already here who would like to liveaboard, but can't, because the hydro isn't too well set up for it. Best person to contact is Roman Masley, our membership director, who is pretty pro liveaboard - the rest of the board is kind of split pro / anti. PM me and I can get you Roman's email.

fRENCHMANS BAY MARINA has just built a new dock with 50 amp power and 10 foot wide main dock for winter liveaboard.
cable, winterized water line, motorized pumpout and handy to the washrooms.
A little more money than the existing older docks but way more convenient.

I have wintered in Frenchmans bay since 2002.

4.50 per sq. ft. plus $300 liveaboard plus $39 per amp for the 6 month season.
