Re: Why I Have a New Cell Phone or How I Fell Off the Pier

I have a photo somewhere of me of me hanging from a dock line with one arm, digital camera up in the air in the other, water up to my thighs. I was going to take a picture from the dock and my feet slipped, but I caught the line before I got completely wet. My "friends" snapped a quick picture before helping me back up.

Casio makes a line of waterproof/shock resistant phones that are perfect for the sailor. They come in both regular and a smart phone versions. You can swim with them, use the camera surfing, etc. Only problem is they don't float and you know how I found that out. After I found it in about 3' of water it still worked fine. Other than the waterproof feature, their shock resistance is a big plus. Until I got the Casio phones, my cell phones struggled to survive till the end of the contract period. The Casios worked just as well at the end of the contract as at the begiinning. Verizon is my service provider. Have seen them in their stores but not always. You may have to go on line to find them.

I ditto the rice advice. The rice helps draw the moisture out of it. Even if you have to leave it alone for a week, don't turn it on yet. It's good to hear that you are ok. : )

That solution (dip/liquid) has been around for a long time in the boating world. It is called Corrison-X and is a blue colored liquid. You use an artist's brush and paint it on the circuit boards of any electronics and they are now "waterproof". It also works well to revive something that got wet and after the circuit board dries you paint Corrosion-X on to get under any hidden moisture.
