I dare to be different! Don't buy any boats! Fly to the destination you want to explore or vacation in, then locally charter a bare boat. I just don't want to spend weeks sailing blue water until I get to my destination. As a bonus, you will not have to deal with costly maintenance and upkeep of your chartered boat.

I reckon to avoid extra costs, don't buy in EU, Aus or NZ unless you are a resident (These places have inflated values due to import taxes). If its a first voyage boat, you've already spent plenty but it would be better to be at a place where equip was available and at a inexpensive place as well, (I'm not sure where that is, let me know will you’all).
Think the vessel should be in good order if you are away from home base, so you are not spending extra on accommodation or worry about visa issues or being in a lousy place that is not your choosing.
My concern is feasibility and not knowing if I have the courage to do it from a remote place.

I think it depends a lot on how much experience you have and where you'd like to go. We've been cruising for a few years, and rarely found a place we didn't like. It's more like every place is so awesome we can't imagine how the next place could be better... and then surprise it is!

One of my favorite sailing books is: Always a Distant Anchorage - Hal Roth He gives a pretty good picture of what it's really like.

The key is to make sure you have realistic expectations, are flexible, and tenacious. While cruising is an awesome life, it is full of compromises, not always easy and sometimes not even fun.
