Re: Where do u run in Hurricane season

Once you start looking, there are hurricane holes all around the caribbean. Best thing is to get the crusing guides and start reading. There are great places to hold up in St. Johns, USVI, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, etc. The thing that helps you survive is having tall enough ground around you so the waves don't start attaching the anchorage and it helps to deflect the wind off the hull which reduces pulling strength against anchors. I've heard of people very specifically going and chaining the boat onto a sea bouy or big channel bouy. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do in the time ya got to work with. Everything I hear and I've read says don't stay on the boat if at all possible, but be sure to leave after the storm is over, because there won't be any food, water, electricity, etc. Everything will be closed. But, Green Cove Springs just south of Jacksonville Fl is where a lot of people put their boats up on the hard for hurricane season. I've heard of people doing that in other places too.
