They are all in Georgetown Bahamas. The ones that go on from there are cranky, loner, individualists...... :>)

Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....(just ask Weavis....)

Seriously.... what I love about cruising is to get away from the tourist locations and find a small simple fishing village, with no road service .....and to meet proud, hardworking people, maintaining a clean simple home and culture for their children.

Some of the remote Atoll's in Micronesia come to mind as having beautiful people.

Thanks. Almost there. Boat buyer in next month or two.

Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

We you've all, well almost all, been very helpful. So far I want to hang out with the hippies in the Bahamas.

I totally agree that it's what you make it and/or what you give. Karma, or Boatma. (new word! started it right here. 10/21/2015 for future wikipedia point of origin)

Tomorrow is, quite literally, the first day of the rest of my life. Dropping out begins....

Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

Some cynical attitudes there, but also some refreshing ones.
Our experience so far in meeting people (sailors, passers-by who see our flag and stop for a chat, marina attendants, border officials etc) on the water and at the marinas and harbours (of Australia, New Zealand, France, Corsica, Sardinia, Tunisia, Sicily, Turkey), is generally very positive, and in some cases overwhelming. We have made friends in most ports, and a number that we stay in contact with regularly. It is part of the joy of cruising for us - decent people with whom we enjoy spending time, and sharing experiences.

And that 'spending time' is a big thing. It is your life, you never get it back, so try to spend it well. Especially when you are getting on as we are, that becomes a big thing. Negative people - pot-holes in the roads of life. Just dodge them as best you can, and try to avoid too much undercarriage damage

Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

But hippies, man...I love hippies. I was a hippie. My Mom was a hippie. Then I had to go to school, get a job, work, etc. But tomorrow I'll be free again. Back to my roots.

Peace, Love, Rock&Roll, dudes and dudettes.

PS: Where specifically are the hippiest?

Kenomac... How can you insult the people of Sardinia by calling them Italian...
I am So tempted to post this on a local site along with your boats name etc...
Italians are wankers... as any Sardinian will be only to happy to tell you...
You Canucks are as bad as the Yanks...
Its like telling an Azorian waiter he's Portuguese.. he'll spit on your plate as he walks to your table..

Wiki has Sardinia as part of Italy. Doesn't that make them Italian, rather than Sardines. just asking.

Unfortunately, our glistering yachts, powerfull tenders distrustingly padlocked to the wharf, our ignorance of local language, our impatience, are barriers between us and them.
Make the effort of learning 10 words in the local language (Hello, please, thank you , very good....) row to the beach , walk or ride a bicycle or use the local bus inland, rent that derelict motorbike for a few $ and a handshake as a contract, look for local help for that little sewing job, hang around beyond the beach front bar, get yourself invited by fishermen to raise their nets at dawn, ...
You will enjoy what is arguably the genuine side of the voyage
Absolutely well said. We have found that in Tunisia - beautiful people who invite you to their homes, and greet you with a smile, a hug and a kiss. Get behind the scenes, visit the markets the locals shop at, ask the locals for help or advice, and respect their customs and faiths. With the exception of one corrupt official, nothing but good experiences - some overwhelming.

Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

I am not a social butterfly I think that is why I enjoy the cruising & sailing lifestyle. I find marinas to be too noisy for my taste. An anchorage with less than half a dozen boats is ideal for us.

The beautiful people we try to seek out are normally the locals. One of the others here mentioned learning 10 words of the local language that is great advice!

Scotland, Wales and Ireland are part of the UK...
Try telling them they're English and see how many teeth you have left..

Re: Where are all the beautiful people?

Labrador and Newfoundland. After breaking my tiller at sea one day, hours of being seasick, I reached Williams Habour at midnight and tied alongside a fishing boat ( the wharf having burned in an accident). Spent the next day sleeping and reading. Six in the evening three men cam with a six pack of beer and a salmon. "We saw you come in at midnight. We haven't seen you since. We thought we'd come down and make sure you're okay. Would you have a beer? And we. Fought you a salmon."

Such a welcome! In many places from everyone, European and Inuit alike.
