What's the Best Pet on a Boat ?

Haha! Nostradamus and Hummingway, you crack me up! LOL!!

On a serious note, we have a little terrier who is pretty good value. He only shits on the tramp, unless it is too rough to go forward, can swim a km, barks at uniformed thieves and other authorities, eats lobster feet, fetches flying fish, is great company and can climb up the swim ladder by himself. He scorns dogs that wear those dinky little life vests.

Once he feels comfortable with an area he swims ashore to do his business, has a run, sniffs his mates' arses, swims back out to the boat and climbs aboard. All before brekky. We are trying to teach him to bark when he sees lights while sailing at night so then we can include him in the watch system. This is proceeding somewhat slowly and we are a bit disappointed...

Yeah, pretty bloody useless up the mast and refuses to haul on a sheet. We have to lift him up on to the boom so he can burrow inside the stack pack with our son, but then he refuses to zip it up afterwards. Maybe by the time he is 2 years old?

Pets? Ever watch people with a dog? It seems that their day is managed around the dog. Then the barking starts. Maybe you get to hear them saying the dogs name over and over and over?

I have had to move to another spot in some anchorages, because of this. Then there are the dog owners that bring dogs to the beach or places where there should be no dogs.

Dogs may be great pets, and even great on boats. For me, I avoid dog owners.

He's not much cop for bug killing, totally bone idle, never lifts a finger to help but the conversation's pretty good and he's got a wicked sense of humour!

Do dust bunnies count? I seem to have a few in corners. We have been cleaning sails, rebedding port holes & hatches so the bunnies have taken over. They really DO breed like bunnies!!

Here's a harbor seal that was born in my marina about a year ago.
Notice the umbilical cord still attached.

Its eyes are still closed in this shot. Now that's cute!
