What Removes Velcro Sticky Residue from Gelcoat?
I pulled off the old velcro used for port light curtains. I've tried many products including Goof Off. Nothing I've tried seems to work. Any ideas?

If oil doesn't work (anything from WD 40 to vegetable oil) try a cleaner called oops. Works really well but I would wear gloves

Ok gang...I just applied the "Fight Fire with Fire" theory. I stuck a new piece of industrial velcro on the residue and pulled it off quickly. It grabbed it and pulled it off...wow! No Lowes trip today:thumbup:

GooGone worked for me. Nothing else even touched it.

Acetone. With any solvent you have to let it soak in a bit.

3m adhesive remover -won't hurt gelcoat, varnish, or painted surfaces. Apply, allow to sit for a minute or so, rub off with terry cloth. Should do it!

Zoff is a product we can buy in Aus at pharmacy outlets - it is used for removing plasters in hospitals and is excellent for any sticky residue.
Good luck Sue

Re: What removes velcro sticky residue from gelcoat?
The adhesive is basically rubber cement and the solvent for that is naphtha or benzene. Old rubber cement will be harder to get off and there are many high-end solvents that will pull it off faster. Some of the "orange citrus" cleaners will also take it off, but many of them also remove paint, caveat emptor.
A clean white terry cloth rag helps to pull it off and hold it off instead of just moving it around, or a Scotchbrite sponge can help. But there's no magic, just rubber cement thinner and patience and some mechanical abrasion.
