All i need is one wild one on a tear to ruin my life.

So. Iam wondering if it is possible to start a thread listing the "safe and welcoming places" and a seperate one listing hostile places to boaters. Including the names of the officers involved.

If we know where NOT to go, we can maybe enjoy our retirement. I was even considering registering my sailboat in Florida but now????

Waddyathink?

New Smyrna , Daytona , St. Augustine , Jacksonville. Good places.

Liveaboards pay school taxes and property taxes through their slip rent. The marina pays those taxes.

Just don't stay on the New Smyrna free dock just yet... it is completely infested with cockroaches. We did not discover this until coming back from dinner in the dark... they were covering the dock. We were lucky and managed to kill all those that managed to come aboard.

Good to know since New Smyna is one of our usual weekend stops, we tend to stay in the City Marina tho.

Re: What is the deal with Titusville Florida and Liveaboards?

My son and I are returning to our boat in Boston and sailing/motoring the icw and then sail to the Bahamas and on to the ditch and down to Patagonia and back up the Atlantic side to the Caribbean. Now as we travel the icw will we be considered liveaboards and not allowed to anchor or moor where we want to? Is there any allowance given by those enforcing the laws noting that we are travelers that live on a boat but have a permanent address in another state?

Not to worry. We have been anchoring on the ICW and in the Bahamas since the 1970's and have never had a single encounter with the authorities. Dont believe everything you read, especially on this forum.

By the way, there is no "ditch" between the Bahamas and Patagonia.

Yes there is a ditch between the Bahamas and Patagonia if you travel down South America on the Pacific side. But your right about what is on the forum but I respect their opinions and diversity anyway.

If the term "ditch" represents a protected inland waterway, then this is not the case. You may have a different "ditch" definition. What is this that you are referring to?

Re: What is the deal with Titusville Florida and Liveaboards?

Hudson force, its true, and I forgot that in my "facetious" reply, that the Panama Canal is also known as "the ditch", although I never understood why. The Suez canal and the Corinth canal might be called a ditch, having been dug to sea level, but the Panama Canal is not a ditch in the usual meaning of the word.

When kingwoodie wrote he was going Carribean to Patagonia I properly assumed he would be going down the Atlantic side, and you know what they say about assuming.

Re: What is the deal with Titusville Florida and Liveaboards?

Ah, terminology often requires some clarification. In my most common cruising territory the "ditch" is a common term for the intracoastal waterway or any passage within lagoons protected by barrier islands. It's always good to hear of alternate meanings.

Yes, mine too. Although lately some of that ditch seems to be filling in....
