Don't worry, all that space gets filled up with near worthless trivial things that are not all that important to your existence on this planet. Be patient, it will happen. In ten years you will be saying we need a garage sale honey, how did we accumulate all this crap?

If you are serious about accelerating the rate at which you accumulate trivial possessions then peruse through Craigslist's Free Section. And before you ask, No, you can't borrow my pickup.

It was this behavior ( university bar ) that got me here!

So I say NO loudly to that activity.

As it happens I am starting to slowly see a lady who has her own boat and a 300 sgft apartment. Though the apartment is sublet in the summer. Sounding hopeful.

Own boat isn't necessary.. I'll share happily - for the right person.

And no I'm not going to post a picture it's not my boat.. But it's a 1994 Catalina 320.. mental images are always so much more perfect.. ;-)

Boy can I relate - in reverse. Four months ago we sold the house we'd owned for sixteen years. Many yard sales. I remember sitting in our camp chairs listening to our voices echoing for the last month...
Then moved into a 34' fifth wheel (winter lodgings) which is about 300sqft.
Then bought the 35' sailboat and started moving stuff aboard. I want to say it's easier to ease in to the downsizing, but it was still eye opening

My husband has put all friends on notice:
"We are now a Mobile Wilderness Area. If you pack it in, you pack it out."

I'd say move into just the bedroom of the apt. And leave the rest empty to store food and consumables.

Myself, right now, I'm going through the downsizing process. And it's hard getting rid of stuff w/o actually giving it away or trashing it. I stand to loose a lot of $ if I can't sell some of it, and people aren't buying used stuff anymore. It's the high value items that's the hardest.

So do maintain self control or you'll get land locked. You could fill the space with the left over Xmas trees and pretend your living in the forest, the second best option!

I've got to say that as I watched over the last three yard sales I was dismayed at the amount of stuff we sold for pennies on the dollar that we had bought after we'd decided to sell the house and buy a boat. Enough to buy the windlass we need now...

Did that a year ago and it is working our great…..!

2 of the bedrooms and garage are boat storage spaces and workshops. Boat is almost empty, so we can now access every area to give interior a detail inspection, do a few messy improvements, re-organize spares and spaces, so we can move back on board with a lighter load.
Now is the time to clean out domestic water and holding tanks….. repaint the bilges and engine room, clean the sails and make our true floating home that much nicer.

And when cooking on a skateboard becomes easy, advance skills can be developed on a unicycle...

Other possibilities: sleep on a 3 inch foam pad, tilted up 30 degrees to one side or the other; fill 9/10 of the refrigerator with bubble wrap, put all of your food under the bubble wrap and remove the light bulb; take the seat off the toilet and pretend that it is a bucket; take the one chair, nail its feet to the floor facing the wall and about 3 feet from it; disconnect the TV antenna/cable (if you have a TV); turn off the heat/AC; tape up all windows so that the clear area is only 6x15 inches or so... time will fly by and soon you will be back on board!

FUN... we have no power and it is close to freezing.
My neighbors are all freaking out! They don't know what to do. Has the human race really dissolved to such a level?
They can't eat as the local take away and restaurants don't have power either.

Lanterns out.. light weight smock on and thicker socks. auxiliary BBQ lit. dinner and coffee. arr... now where is that book?

Actually watching the commotion may be more fun..

Laptop can charge off the car.. in about 5 hours but it will be bed before then.
