Re: We Started The Adventure

Tom,
Right before we were going to leave Port A, Texas I stepped off the boat and shattered my ankle. I ended up being in first a long leg cast and then a short leg from Sept until December. Watching me get on and off the boat was a spectator sport. That said: We met some incredible sailing friends, found a slip in Rockport, Texas that we have kept for the last 16 years no matter where we are, and were better prepared when we actually threw the lines.
Lessons Learned:
With sailing patience in truly a virtue. Never make plans that can't be changed. With cruising there is no hurry. (when we came back to the states after cruising for the first 8 months we couldn't believe how rushed everyone was) The ocean will be there calling you in a month or 6 months. When you are trying to fix anything, anyone who might help you with parts etc is on island time.
I am sending healing thoughts to your wife and thoughts of patience to your mind and heart.
Nellie

Hi Tom, This is from Kirsi. I have the trailer next to your boat, and we met the other day. Come down to the marina and see us (me and Jack) if you need some help. I hope your wife is doing better. I was told there are small portable oxygen machines that could fit on the boat.

On the bright side Tom, the weather in Florida might be a little milder than Indiana this winter.........

Re: We Started The Adventure

Tom, I had a cousin and her husband cruise from the Chesapeake to Florida and back three winters in a row on a Catalina 22. I think the third year, they did get a shore side dwelling. They had a blast, this was after age 65.

Tom, I pity you having to look at those sunsets, instead of preparing for snow up north!

I hope you guys can get on the water soon!

Best wishes!

Hey Tom, there may be a trailer for rent here. I can ask around if you would like. You met a few more people here, and I am keeping them updated.

I.m in the process of buying a trailer now, Kirsi. I found a deal cheaper than renting one and it can become an income property later on......or a land base. Not to worry, I've got things in well in hand.

I really don't like you ... only joking. I am jealous as it gets colder and damper here in the UK. As a South African and now a Brit too, I can't wait to get to warmer climes again and to get back on the water. Good on you guys.

Wife gets out of the hospital tomorrow or the day after. I closed on the house today, well, make that trailer.....I had to scramble with only days to work with.

I'll renovate it and do some more on the boat while she recovers as fully as possible.

It is funny how life works sometimes. Glad your wife is doing better and you and her will be safely planted on protected ground.

I'm glad your wife is doing better Tom.
