You're right about society, that's why my wife and I can't quite make the complete break just yet. My wife is still drawn to her land based friends, I on the other hand, prefer the lifestyle which includes making new friends every day in port or at the anchorage. Hopefully soon, we'll reach a good balance.

Our lifestyle will definitely become more minimalist when we finally move on the boat full-time. Currently, if we could just eliminate most of the taxes and fees, healthcare costs and auto insurance of our land based life... we could cruise like royalty. Even just the $36,000 we pay for health coverage eliminated.... would be enough to cruise first class.

Move. I'm sure you can probably find some place in the world where the government isn't well organized and wouldn't notice you, but not here in the US. Unless maybe if you find a very large area of land where the owner might not even notice if you pitch a tent and live there.
