Wanderer or Adventurer .. Which are You?

Nice post by John Vigor recently on the difference between a wanderer and an adventurer. Assuming you are living aboard which would you consider yourself. I'm in the middle leaning more toward the wanderer I think.

John Vigor's Blog: We still need the adventurers

Re: Wanderer or Adventurer .. which are you?

I'm not into labels. I'm just me, doing what I want to be doing when I'm out there. I don't need a label on who I am, and I don't need to label others doing what they want to do. Some trips are a wander, and some are an adventure, and usually they are a mix of both--and more.

I don't think Vigor is trying to put labels on things. It's more about a state of mind or what you are looking for in cruising. Most of us are like you suggest .. a mix I suspect. Somedays you want to just kick back and some days you want a little more adventure.

Re: Wanderer or Adventurer .. which are you?

I like Vigor, but I think his post is more of a longing for a past world that will never come back. I feel that way at times, but it doesn't get me anywhere, so I think it is better to look forward.

Vigor characterizes the Hiscocks as wanderers not adventurers?
Are you kidding me!

I used to be an adventurer, then I took an arrow to the knee.

Yea, I'm sure that will raise some hackles but I don't think that's what he intended.

Re: Wanderer or Adventurer .. which are you?

I'm a wanderer. By Vigor's definition, Roald Amundsen was a wanderer. Robert Falcon Scott was an adventurer. James Cook was a wanderer. Sir Francis Drake was probably an adventurer

Re: Wanderer or Adventurer .. which are you?

We are wanderers, who try to avoid adventure, but always seem to find a little along the way !! Just seems to work that way no matter how well ya plan !! Not a bad thing ya know, cus adventure keeps ya young !!

Wanderer, adventure is what I get when I screw up.

I get a lot of adventure, too much.
