US visa for Canadian passport holders?

Does anyone have first hand experience of clearing into the USA with a Canadian passport but without a visa. I'm specifically referring to a Canadian visiting the US Virgin Islands. I've never had a definitive answer to this question and right now it seems the only way to find out is to go there and either get accepted or kicked out!

Re: US visa for Canadian passport holders?

I'm Canadian and I have entered the US many, many times for all kinds of visits, including on a boat for many months. I have also come into the USVI often, albeit by plane or ferry.

Just go, and report to Customs normally. By law, Canadians do not need a visa to enter the US. They must have a passport.

Re: US visa for Canadian passport holders?

You get a visa once you enter. The visa is the stamp they put on your passport. Canadians are automatically given a 6 month visa for tourist/vacationing/personal purposes. We are Canadian and just came back from the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show; even though we told US Customs that we were staying for 6 days, our visa stamp gave us 6 months.

I'd imagine that The USVI would have the same immigration rules as the mainland and that U.S. customs administers it. It would be pretty messed up if every US colony (Puerto Rico, Guam, USVI, American Samoa, etc) had different rules, especially after 9/11.

I'm going to be taking a cruise out of Puerto Rico in January, will update on findings.

Re: US visa for Canadian passport holders?

In most circumstances, Canadian citizens do not require visitor, business, transit or other visas to enter the United States, either from Canada or from other countries. There are, however, some exceptions to this situation.

In the past I have driven the ferry from BVI to Cruz Bay . Canadians were passed the same as US citizens . The word I was told by a US customs officer is that Canadians are un-controllable .

This makes me laugh! The phrasing is a little unfortunate!
