This forum is boring ! What's your 5th of July project ?

I'm going to try and pull my 200HP diesel from the boat by myself. Then I'm going after the 5KW genset. But first I'm ordering a tuna melt form the little shop on the hill.

What are you doing today ?

Taking a break from emptying all the lockers, and taking everything up to a storage unit...

Time to repaint the dark recesses and vacuum out the fiberglass dust!

Good luck with the engine.

Re: This forum is boring ! What's your 5th of July project ?

I started the day trying to work on my 20HP Honda Outboard, which has been giving me so many problems I spent most of yesterday replacing the carb with a new one and new plug, but I think I'm getting gas in the oil, it idles but has no power. Tried draining some oil out but it still doesn't run right, about ready to give up and pay somebody.

So looking online at the takacat vs an aluminimum bottom RIB and trying not to work on anything... dock party to go to soon... but so many projects are calling.

Tomorrow the guy comes to discuss the hard top, and I've got to finish refilling the tranny/oil/coolant and burp everything... but it's been hot and the beer has been cold.

Writing down all these things is kinda like work, and I was trying to avoid that today...

Dock party sounds nice. Here's an update with pictures of my living room. So this is what your home can look like when you live on a boat.

Put a new tarp over the center of my boat. That's about all I can manage in one day. Maybe will get the canopy off the truck and load the riding lawnmower in back. Don't know. I'm too busy posting on the forum. Will be helping to teach sailing tomorrow.

I finished all my "work" earlier this week, "recuperating" the boat from a nine day cruise the prior week. New alternator, fixed the leaky water hose, filled tanks with water, and oought some rum for this week's cruise. More fun comin' right up!

The real bitch is it is getting harder to find limes --- something to do with bad times in Mexico. Drats.

Gotta find another "start" battery, I disconnect mine and it drops to 10.5V, think maybe it's bad?

Cruising 200 nm in beautiful seas then having two more friends arrive to join us. (Two others depart tomorrow morning). Dinner out tonight, ladies say it's a dress up night. Ladies wearing dresses and heels will stand out a bit in the restaurant but they like to doll up occasionally.

Re: This forum is boring ! What's your 5th of July project ?

Water got in my gas, which ended up in my 3.5 Outboard. Had to spend all day flushing the water through the lines to no avail of starting the engine again. The water had soaked inside everywhere and the plug wasn't firing. Took the carb apart, flushed everything again carb cleaner, wd-40 etc.... Didn't work.

Went asleep, and awoke to a running engine....hmmmmm

Lots of engine problems, some cruising and a party ! I hope eveyone's projects were a success !

I got my engines out of the boat, dumped 4 gallons of oil all over the lot and spent 3 hours cleaning that up. But with every victory come a few small setbacks I guess.

Here's hoping all our projects lead to a successful cruise !

Fill a void with epoxy resin, apply fiberglass, sand and in the mean time manage the worker that don't want to do it.

Lots of fun and great knowledge to have. It been going on for a month, but just a few more day and we will be done.Well we hope anyway.

Getting 4 or 5 coats of spar urethane on my newly built hollow birdsmouth mainmast. (Snapped the old one last year in a blow near Martha's Vineyard. Should've reefed. . . .)

Also, lawn mowing, brush-hogging, and fiberglassing the busted plastic hood of my John Deere tractor. Can you tell we're not fulltime cruisers (yet)?
