IMHO, the smallest one that you can fit the largest pan you intend to use on a daily basis.

Too large, and you give up usable counter space... too small and you will dread doing dishes (or at least rinsing).

My opinion, until you reach a full size, home kitchen style sink, put in the largest one that will fit and still leave you counter space in the galley. Or look at the largest dishes, pots or pans you will need to wash and base it on that.

If you give up too much counter space for the sink you can get most of it back by using one of the cutting board or similar covers that fit on top of the sink when you aren't using it.

I have counter space beside my stove...enought for all my needs!!

I was concern about the sink because I will use it to wash, I think???

my boat has no shower...I wonder if you guys use the sink to wash your hair or clothing??? if the sink is really only used for dishes and teeth brushing then mine is alredy perfect.

Steeve, the optimum size is really dependent upon your specific counter design... hard to say from this distance.

But what I'd have on the "perfect" sink is a bottom that sloped towards the drain enough that it would drain whilst heeled. This (to me) obvious feature is not available in any stock design sink that I've ever seen. Leads to long periods of aggravation whilst on passages!

And yes, even though we have a shower, we sometimes shampoo in the galley sink. Uses way less water than a shower. Also sometimes used for washing small amounts of clothing, though a bucket in the cockpit is the usual means.

If possible I would add a second basin. I would rather have a double sink than a larger one as long as I could fit the largest pan used daily.

Most commercial sinks just aren't deep enough....we had ours built in to the counter top..that meant it could be any size we liked....we liked extra deep.
Also if you do decide to go double, its more versatile if the center divider is lower.

The biggest improvement made to my (single) sink was using a plastic bowl in the sink. Just make sure it has a few places / holes to lift it out - instant double sink

Strange that it took me 25 years to discover - given that I always used the same method at home But there it is

Smallest possible. Put the pots, pans, plates and cutlery in a net bag and throw it over the side on a line, the fish will clean them up better than you can in ANY size of sink.

I agree totally ...... the whole damn ocean can be your sink

In addition ... a solar shower in the cockpit is your bathroom .... no sun to heat the solar shower ? A small kettleful of hot added to a 3/4 full solar shower = perfect ......

Laundry ? .... a large plastic bucket works for me

I can lay an oven tray across it for cleaning and still contain all the spillage.
Also, since I don't have an over flow, if I'm filling one side with the drain closed and forget (never happens....what?) then it'll over flow into the other side.
