Re: Teak Problem

Back again with some more info on Boracol:

It's manufactured in the UK, among others, by ACS Ltd. Read all about it and order on-line (via E-Bay) on their website:

As Pirate 999 says, in the US Sansin appears to be the only importer .

However, its active ingredient is a fairly simple chemical: disodium octoborate tetra hydrate (B8 O13 .4H2O for the chemists in the room), a fungicide and insecticide mainly applied on wood and porous stone. Since timber is a widely used home-construction material in America there are several brands that, in a pinch, could be used once diluted to the appropriate proportion. Nisus Corporation [http://nisuscorp.com/pest-management...cts/bora-care] markets "Bora-Care" and "Tim-Bor Professional" (Tim-Bor… really?) at 60% and 98% concentrations. I, however, would try to get my hands on the real stuff and not play amateur pest-control with one's valuable teak decking.

Also keep in mind that the stuff should be handled with care. Eye protection and gloves are prudent and wearing coveralls wouldn't be a bad idea either. The safety sheet (if you read it, you might never use it -- it's ominous) can be found here.

Cheers
