They can be left rough for traction.

Paint with unthinned paint in the color of your choice, sprinkle sand on the wet paint and allow to dry. Brush off excess sand and cover with thinned coat of paint. The coarser the sand, the better the anti-slip property, two part epoxy garage floor coating will last longer than ordinary paint.

This. Did exactly this years ago on exterior steel steps, sure footing even while raining.

Another idea is to drill 1 inch holes at regular intervals ...
No! Inviting catastrophe, not to mention liability!

Skateboard tape - available everywhere. Clean the aluminum with acetone first.

I like Kiwigrip a lot. I used it for non-skid on our boat. With a quart you'll have a lot left over! Mask the area well, then spoon it out - It's like thick whipped cream - and use a textured roller to add peaks (don't paint unless the weather is dry, moisture will cause the surface to smooth out). Remove the masking tape immediately, as it dries fast and the tape will pull it up. I suggest a dark colour (black) so it doesn;t show the dirt.

Once set it is very good non-skid and can be scrubbed hard as you like. Can be recoated using identical technique with no prep apart from clean and dry.

Re: Sticky stuff for aluminium passerelle

Wow thank you all for some great options and pros and cons for some of them.

I'm favouring painting something onto the passerelle, it seems like a simpler choice that can be easily maintained.

I'll let you know what the finished job looks like.

Thanks Barry.

What some sort of truck bed liner. You could have the shop tape lines so it looks nicer. I'm sure they have something similar to that over there.
