Spiders

OK, I need ideas? I am tired of the constant battle with the spider invasion from the dock to the boat. Any ideas on how to manage them would be appreciated.
Anyone have a good defensive plan???

Suspend is a very effective product for control of spiders and other insects. It is expensive, about $45.oo a Pint. It will last a long time when mixed for spraying makes about 50 gallons.
There are lots of sellers with information online, "google" Suspend S.C.

Try hanging tell tails, that blow around, where they'll mostly build their webs, usually between shrouds and rails. Or hose'm down. Yo ho ho

You should see the bird problem I have. And no, owls don't work!

Put a few rats on board. They eat spiders.

Spiders eat bugs, bugs are attracted to the lights on your dock see where I am going here? If possible turn off the lights and the spiders will leave

Might be chiggers they usually crawl up to the belt line and when they can't proceed try to burrow in leaving an itchy welt. They usually live in grassy wooded areas.

Spider Control

At a marina a few years ago that was probably the worst for spiders I have ever experienced, I formulated a multi part plan that was very effective. After trying multiple singular approaches that were only marginally effective it seemed that a singular solution was not gonna work, so started with where they were coming from, the dock. Thoroughly powerwashed the underside and all crevices, and along the underside of the seawall cap then sprayed the dock and wall cap with Spider Kill, (I think that was the name of the stuff, got it at Boatersworld). Then treated the docklines with the same stuff, letting it soak in and re-applying. Eliminated any lightsource around the boat that would draw bugs to it at night, minimizing the food source. I don't like pesticides in living spaces, so I avoided spraying the inside of the boat, instead I let the boat set for a few sunny days with curtains open to bake the little buggers, then went around with a small canister vac and sucked up the carcasses and any others that survived, both inside and outside. The rest of that summer and the next season (after doing the same stuff in late spring) the spider situation was drastically reduced, only a few here and there that promptly got vacuumed. Cleaning up the spiders had one downside though, I couldn't dangle them off the back of the boat to feed the bass patrolling the dock pilings anymore, it was kinda fun watching 'em rise up and chow on the big'uns! Happy hunting!

Once they are on board getting rid of them is very difficult. I use high power bug killer on the dock lines every week and after any rain. Then I use the same bug killer on any webs and spiders that I see. Certain ant poison chemicals/traps seem to kill spiders also. But it takes an average of 6 months to a year to kill them all. Persistence pays off with killing the little buggers.

Give them names. Invite them to a beer. Then they stop seeming a problem. It is a small world and we must find ways to live it in harmony.

I love that line of thinking, but when they maliciously start biting your lip because they think your stealing THEIR beer................

go to home depot. buy the best cheepo spray-is a half gallon with a spray thingie --container is brown--it works..i spray the boat at the dock edge when at a new and different dock, i spray the dock and under the dock and i spray the side of the boat--around the ports and near the possible entrances---lol---is a spider, roach, tick, flea, etc spray and is cheap...goood luck. works well. i HATE spidey--nasty lil guy----i dont care if he does eat other bugs--he hurts and kat isnt up for death by spider......i can live with one on board but it best not multiply.....

Spider bites are actually much more rare than most people think.
https://www.washington.edu/burkemuse...hs/asleep.html

If you are consistently getting spiderbites, you probably are infested with bedbugs, fleas, lice, chiggers or something like that.

Sorry to spring that one on you! However, spiders will help kill these insects.

Nature is a balancing act. I would never suggest spraying pesticides anywhere. If you can't imagine a way that the (usually neuro-) toxic pesticides would get into your body, you are not being very creative.

Pesticide poisoning is more serious than you can imagine. Spider bites are barely a problem. You are only likely to get a few in your life.
