Spiders are attracted to white light. They spin webs near white lights to catch bugs attracted by the same white light for their own dinner. Avoid the use of white lights on your boat at night in port. The anchor light is a big attractor. There's not much you can do about that but do not use white lights anywhere you don't have to.

A dearly departed friend taught me that if you stop killing spiders and destroying their homes, they will not bite you. I have not been bitten, stung, or harassed by any bugs since. Over a year now.

What utter nonsense! Like they are a sentient creature that can bear a grudge!

Spiders usually bite due to a pinch incident - when they are sandwiched between your skin and, say, a sheet, a cushion, or your clothing. It's their (only) form of self-defence. But they got there by accident, when exploring. They have no interest at all in humans.

I was once bitten when I put on a shirt that had a spider inside.

The only medically significant spiders in the US are the brown recluse, and the black widow. Here in California we only have to worry about the black widow. They are so shy and retiring, though, that they aren't usually a problem.

They walk on the tips of there feet that's why they are so difficult to control as they do not absorb product like other insects do.

Yea....that's what my pest control guys say. Living on the Delta, spiders are EVERYWHERE.... house, boats, dock. Many around here pay a pest control company for a monthly spraying....but with little success because of what you say.
