Solar Vents

Does any one know of any good solar vents to help ventilate the boat. I could use ones mounted in the hatches or on the cabin roof. I would like to get one for the v-birth one for the head and one for the saloon.

I have found both the Nicro and the Lewmar vents to be good performers.

I have two Nicros and two spares. One is used to ventillate the AIR HEAD so no power used. They seem like good equipment. Get the SS cover option for a bit of impact resistance.

Save your receipts. The Nicro vents have a very high failure rate.

No kidding. I think WM had a recall on them?

Still working but they are still using NICAD batteries. WOW! I looked at the spares being sold and they look exactly like the dead ones I removed from 15 year old vents. There is a way to replace with Lithium. The NICADs must be from very old stock.

I don't know about a recall, but this year a local WM refused to honor the "no hassle guarantee" on one I bought last summer that had failed. So I contacted the company, which to their credit did result in a replacement shipped to me. However after only 2 months that one has failed! So now I have them shipping me yet another one.

While swapping out modern vent after vent, the antique solar vent in another hatch spins happily from shortly after sunrise every day. As it as for... who knows... at least a decade and a half. Maybe longer.

I notice WM is now carrying other brands of solar vents.

20 years on mine--on the same NiCad battery.

Only problem which afflicts two of my three solar vents is slight noise from the bearings. I slip down the fan off its shaft and spray a little silicon. Instant fix...but has to be repeated next trip. Never a drop of condensation in the boat tho between them and 4 other passive vents.
